The cocoa bean is the fruit seed of the cocoa tree native to the primeval forests of South and Central America. The botanical name theobroma cacao means translated as “cocoa, the food of the gods”.
Cocoa served the Maya and Aztecs both as food and as a ritual, love and mystery plant. They even worshiped cocoa so much that they used it as a means of payment instead of gold. When the Spanish conquistadores conquered Mexico in the 16th century and subdued the Aztecs, they did not find gold in the treasuries of ruler Montezuma, but mountains of cacao pods …
Cocoa – more than delicious
Almost every person loves chocolate. And we know that there is something in chocolate that does us good, makes us feel relaxed and happy. What we did not know before is that the origin of chocolate – the cacao bean – is one of the highest quality, most vital and complex foods that humans have ever discovered.
Unfortunately, many of the vital substances contained in cocoa beans are lost in chocolate production. In particular, the “fortune substances” in cocoa are largely destroyed in the roasting of the beans, not to mention what refined refined industrial sugar in the finished chocolate. Cocoa connoisseurs dip their cocoa beans first in honey and then in maca powder, pollen and / or acai powder – an indescribable pleasure.
