Chaga grows as a symbiotic tree fungus on birchwoods. It is predominantly native to Russia and northern Europe, but also grows in this country and is known under the name “Schieferporling Schieferporling”.

The “king of medicinal mushrooms” has been used for centuries in traditional Russian and Chinese medicine for gastrointestinal diseases, for colon cleansing, for skin diseases and for improving the immune system. Chaga has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, general-strengthening, adaptogenic, antiviral and metabolism-stimulating properties and is used in cancers (especially the gastrointestinal tract). He also acts hungry, relaxing and sleep-inducing.

The oblique Schillerporling or Chaga (“Chaga”) was not respected outside Eastern Europe for a long time. Only for some years now, this home-based, medicated mushroom pushes more and more into the consciousness of the people. He appears in the form of inconspicuous black, tuberous, friable outgrowths, which stand out more or less clearly from the black and white drawing of his host tree.
The legendary fungus has been used for centuries in Siberia for the treatment of even severe diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He is also known as a tonic, is used for blood purification and was also used in tuberculosis and heart disease. It has been scientifically studied in Russia since the 1930s and has been a natural part of Russian medicine for centuries. Chaga is an excellent remedy for treating all diseases of the digestive system. These include ulcers and inflammation of the stomach (gastritis) and duodenum. It is also suitable for the treatment of polyps in the stomach and intestine. The rejuvenating effect on the digestive system is used in the treatment of allergic skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis, etc.). The use of the fungus also strengthens the general defense against infection and stimulates the metabolism. It quenches hunger, eliminates fatigue and increases performance. In addition, because it has an immunostimulating effect, it is also used to treat chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).
The first scientific evidence for the antiviral effect of the fungus was provided by Kahlos et al. 1996. He used extracts from the black outer layer of the fungus and was able to detect an almost 100% inhibitory effect of the influenza virus (type A and B influenza).
In inflammatory diseases of the throat and throat can gargled with the Chaga or the inhaled vapor. Good results are also achieved in the treatment of periodontal disease (gingivitis). Internally it helps in inflammatory diseases of the liver and spleen, and also in diseases of the lymphatic system. The fungus strengthens the central nervous system and has a relaxing and sleep-inducing effect. The intake of the mushroom extract is intended to lower high blood pressure.

However, the main application of the fungus is its use in cancer (lung cancer, skin cancer) with a special focus on those of the gastrointestinal tract and the white blood cells (Hodgkin’s lymphoma). As expected, the best results are achieved in the early stages of the disease. In more advanced conditions, ingesting the fungus may slow down cancer growth and lead to pain relief. It also improves the general condition of the patient, for example after surgical tumor removal, and relieves the side effects of conventional chemotherapy. With the doctor’s approval, the ingestion of the fungus can and should be done in combination with conventional chemotherapy.

The chaga mushroom is non-toxic over a wide dose range and is well tolerated. Despite its centuries of use, there are no contraindications to its medical use. The safe use of Chagapräparaten in therapeutic doses show multi-year studies in Russian hospitals in patients with gastric ulcer and severe cancers.

Recommended dosage:
1 – 2 x daily 1 teaspoon (about 3 g) in smoothies, shakes, cocoa, water, etc … stir. To make it easier to use the nutrients such as a tea, boil 1 teaspoon per 250 ml of water and 15 min. simmer on a low heat. Then drink warm or use as a base for other drinks. Not suitable during pregnancy and lactation.
