Gotu Kola, also called marsh pennywort, is a small creeping plant that occurs in South America and Southeast Asia as well as Madagascar. It has played an important role in Ayurvedic tradition as well as in TCM for millennia. Gotu Kola belongs to the nootropic substances – ie. it has a positive effect on brain functions such as memory and learning ability.
Traditionally, Gotu Kola is used for respiratory ailments, colds, bacterial, viral and parasitic infections, as well as mental health problems such as anxiety disorders and stress. Used externally, Gotu Kola is supposed to heal wounds and reduce scarring (eg for stretch marks: “Centella oil”) *
Pour 1 tsp. of 250 ml of boiling water into each cup for 5 min. to let go. Gotu Kola fits well with other “brain-herbs” like Jiaogulan, Brahmi and Schisandra.
Not suitable during pregnancy and lactation.
