As an adaptogenic “superherb”, the reishi mushroom in eastern, especially Chinese, which is referred to here as “shiny lacquer porcelain”, has been used for thousands of years in both traditional and shamanic medicine with many symptoms and thematic areas. It is one of the most researched and proven substances on our planet and is even more important in China than ginseng.
What makes Reishi’s magic so special is his ability to positively support and, above all, balance the whole “human” system in its three basic building blocks – body, mind and soul. The Chinese use the terms CHI, JING and SHEN for these areas – also known as the “Three Treasures”.
In traditional Chinese medicine, Reishi, along with ginseng, cordyceps, etc., is ranked among the twelve “sublime” medicinal herbs and was also the first plant mentioned in the oldest known TCM medicinal herb book.
Reishi was in former times only the ruling aristocratic class allowed and the lower people had to deliver every Reishi found. It is believed that it is the Reishi Shen property, his ability to harmonize and calm the mind, to allow the powerful to rule and to keep their nerves in times of crisis. This wonderful property is accessible to us today and allows each of us to survey and govern the private kingdom with more serenity and tranquility.
In Japan and China, Reishi is also used as a supportive agent in severe physical conditions such as cancer etc. in clinics. Reishi has the ability to mobilize and transform toxins in the body, just as it does in nature – as a tree fungus / parasite that infests old, weak plums / plum trees and converts their raw material into digestible form for us. As a mushroom, Reishi is almost indigestible and has to be boiled for a long time in order to enjoy the active ingredients. Water-soluble extracts or as a second good choice, finely ground mushroom material are mainly used today and can also be very well incorporated as an ingredient in smoothies, elixirs and chocolates. Since Reishi tastes very bitter as a pure plant drug, it is also offered by some manufacturers as a coffee additive.
Especially in combination with raw cocoa it tastes and works fantastically – Reishi rounds The stimulating properties of raw cocoa are wonderful and since both positively affect the heart activity and its opening both physically and spiritually, this is a particularly magical mixture. You can enhance this effect with the addition of some nutmeg.
In its “QI” property, its ability to affect the body, Reishi is known and sought after as one of the most important immune regulating plant substances. Regulating means that Reishi neither stimulates nor suppresses the immune system, but helps to find a suitable response to any challenging circumstances.
The regulating property expresses itself in the mental realm as the possibility to remain more easily in the so-called “alpha state”, so mentally calm and calmly to remain with challenges. Just as the immune system learns to cope better with intruders / challenges, it is also easier in the emotional realm not to over-reactivate or under-react and thus to maintain inner peace. This property makes Reishi, especially with prolonged consumption, one of the most potent plant friends available for the maintenance of physical / mental health. This is the deeper meaning of Reishi’s second name – “The Great Protector.”
The ancient Taoists appreciated Reishi just for this property the most. For her, Reishi was a gateway to the “TAO”, the unity behind the apparent opposites and borders. They also noted that Reishi, like Shatavari / Asparagus, helps the heart (chakra) to handle stressful issues more easily, keeping the heart open.
Reishi spores – the essence of Reishi
Reishi spores are the most concentrated form of Reishi mushroom that Mother Nature offers us. It takes about 1000 kg of Reishi mushrooms to produce 1-3 kg of Reishi spores.
Reishi spores are, so to speak, the “pollen” of Reishi that the fungus uses to reproduce itself, so they are indeed the “Jing” – the life essence – of the Reishi. They contain high concentrations of triterpenes and polysaccharides, the most important vital substances contained in the Reishi mushroom, as well as adenosine, 13 amino acids, selenium, lipopolysaccharides, ascorbic acid, alkaloids and valuable trace elements such as germanium.
Part of the special magic of Reishi spores is their effect on our mind and psyche. A small spoonful of the velvety dark brown powder, dissolved directly in the mouth or as a valuable ingredient in an elixir, gives us an invigorating and at the same time relaxing feeling – the sublime and uplifting effect that has been mentioned so often in the two thousand year history of the Reishi mushroom .
Reishi is known as one of the most important natural substances for our body’s immune system. The medicinal mushroom has a wide range of immunomodulating and life-extending qualities.
In TCM, Reishi is used with a special focus on strengthening the heart, regulating blood pressure and supporting liver function. Reishi spores are also used to alleviate allergies as they contain naturally occurring substances that inhibit histamine release.
The Japanese government officially lists Reishi as an add-on therapy for cancer, and in China, Reishi is recommended for everyday use to promote general health, restful sleep, and increased resistance to infection and heart disease.
Reishi spores can promote longevity and maintain our vitality. Apart from their anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antioxidant effects, they can also affect the immune status of people suffering from hemophilia.
Preliminary clinical studies and field reports indicate that people who are HIV-positive and affected by the Epstein-Barr virus can benefit from the immunostimulating polysaccharides in Reishi. Clinical tests in rats have shown that Reishi spores protect the hippocampus and support it in its functional circles of spatial perception and memory.
Our Reishi spores are grown under controlled conditions and pharmaceutical standards. The spores are processed with pressure and sound vibrations in order to break up the hard cell wall and to make the bioactive treasures accessible inside (“cell-broken”).
Reishi at Dancing Shiva Superfoods
Here you will find Reishi in three different product forms: As raw powder, as highly concentrated extract powder and as spore powder. The effect on the immune system, cardiovascular and other physical systems is relatively the same in all three forms. Only in the mental field can be found differences: Both the raw powder and the extract powder act primarily soothing, balancing and anxiolytic (the effect of the extract powder is much more intense). The Reishi spores are more invigorating, energizing, uplifting and give serenity.
1 – 2 x daily 1 teaspoon (about 3 g) in smoothies, shakes, cocoa, water, etc … stir. As Reishi is very difficult to digest in its raw form, we recommend preparing the powder as a tea to make it easier to use the nutrients: boil 1 tsp. Per 250 ml of water and let it rest for 15 min. simmer on a low heat. Then drink warm or use as a base for drinks.
If that is too complicated, we recommend as an alternative our Reishi extract powder or our Reishi spore powder.
